Coaching needs Freedom!
Konstantinos Panas writes about the qualification of AEK Athens against Panathinaikos in the Greek Cup and how this result affects the emotions of Xavi Pascual.
2002 was the last time AEK Athens qualified to the Greek Cup Final. After 15 years and so they’ve been through several occasion that led the team to the lower A2 League four years ago.
Times were hard, but they did not stop fighting, and that battle led them to a victory 74-69 against Panathinaikos on Sunday night.
Panathinaikos still searching to find answers to the team’s bad start. Rumors claim that the Greens are searching the transfer market to acquire the rights of a starting center to help the team close the gaps in the frontcourt.
On the other hand, Xavi Pascual is worried on the team’s unnatural bad form. President Dimitris Giannakopoulos who is known as a very pressuring and tough owner making feel like he has a slip knot on his neck.
As Jasikevicius once stated… A coach needs the freedom to make his ideas come true. Panathinaikos owner has fired 3 out of 4 coaches after 2012 and only Fragiskos Alvertis the eternal leader of the Greens remains there.
With something like this coach, Pascual feels like trapped. What if he loses against Olympiacos this Friday.
It’s kinda hard to say that coaching is easy when you have to lead Panathinaikos to victory. You can never fire a coach that easy. Is not healthy for an organization who have won six Euroleague trophies.
Xavi Pascual succeeded on Barcelona cause they gave him time… eight years of time! How can he build a winning team when being in Greece for only a year.
Sometimes you have to let the coach decide. When the owner decided then something is wrong.
I’ve never seen the Spanish coach feeling that awkward when coaching one of his teams. He looks anxious, and he seems to have lost the faith of his players. But because a loss always shows the bad things it’s easier to let the time go by.
Time heals. Time is wise. And sometimes time shows what you are made of. If Panathinaikos is bad cause of Xavi Pascual the time will show.
