The Veteran Journey
Ronnie Taylor is an experienced point guard, entering his 12th professional season abroad. Follow his journey as he talks about becoming a veteran and leader on a young team in Hungary
For me, I’m blessed to call this season number 12, it’s gone from me being called “Rook” to now being called “OG” or what my teammates now often refer to me as is “Unc.” I’ve been fortunate enough to have traveled and played in numerous countries, but this season Budapest, Hungary is where I’m calling home for the next few months. It’s a beautiful city with tons of things to do so I can’t really complain much about the life outside of basketball, which of course is half of the battle when having to be away from home for such a long period of time.
As far as basketball goes, I’m with a brand new club and they’re still trying to figure things out but they’re going above and beyond to make sure I’m comfortable and my money is on time; which all of us overseas pros know money not being on time is a norm for majority of teams and can have you extra frustrated. (will have you ready to grab a ski mask and black hoody lol.)
My team is a fairly young team but I think we’ll be solid this season. As the veteran on the team, I feel it’s my duty not only to lead them on the court, but also to pass on the knowledge that I’ve gained throughout the years of my career. Basketball has given me so much, it’s only right I share my successes and experiences with those to come. Well this concludes my first blog entry but definitely won’t be my last. Good luck to everyone as the season starts!
